Design Brief:
Clients
were experiencing a lifestyle change having discarded
their antique furniture and much of their “clutter”
in favour of clean uncluttered lines. They had downsized
considerably from a family of 6 children to one teenager
still at home. The challenge was to create an understated
contemporary home to fit with the existing urban landscape
of 1920 + 1950 style homes. To allow a natural flow
of internal, external and varying living spaces for
entertaining and privacy for all family members. A lap
pool, room for a boat, double carport and workshop all
had to be accommodated on this 600m2 block.
Design
Solution:
Simplicity
and understatement in design and colour along with a
120 year old mango tree allows an easy blend into the
existing urban landscape. The building fans to form
two interlocking wings purposefully encircling private
courtyards and gardens. One wing is for teenagers and
guests while the other includes living areas, kitchen,
master suite, bathroom and office which wrap around
a northern lap pool. 3m wide bi fold doors open to full
width timber steps and a central deck/meals area which
skilfully connects these two wings. Carport doubles
as entry and allows access to boat storage. Spacious
workshop is located at the rear. |
