BEACH RD COFFS HARBOUR
Project
Statement :
The
owners wanted to modernise this rundown, dark dingy
and dated restaurant they had just purchased in a beachside
area.
They knew the kitchen needed a revamp and wanted the
entrance to be towards the street and had decided the
cuisine was to be modern Australian. The logo was completed
with inspiration for the name coming from nearby Macauleys
Beach and the owners asked us to be mindful of this
when formulating design ideas. Budget guidelines were
to only do what was necessary!!!
The design solution was to replace bullnose verandahs
with a parapet roof at the front immediately transforming
the look of the building, and a skillion at the rear.
Double front doors made the restaurant more welcoming
with new timber bifold doors replacing the old timber
windows. Painting the roof, rendering the old brickwork,
introducing new modern fencing, feature lighting, polished
concrete, a water feature and new landscaping added
to the fresh new look.
Inside, near new carpet, straw ceiling and quirky ball
lights were retained. Ugly “telegraph” poles
were wrapped in timber and new stone and metallic kitchen,
reception and bar benches gave an instant lift. Bathrooms
were fully revamped and given splashes of colour. Extensive
new lighting, a touch of vibrant colour, dried beach
grass features and photos of Macauleys Beach, have created
a modern relaxed ambience.
Macauleys Restaurant renovation in Coffs Harbour presents
a perfect example of the creativity of design studio
22’s work. Taking out the Top Award for Best Use
