North Lane Residence.
Initial Site Analysis

Client Brief

Clients had purchased a 60 y.o. home on 500sqm close to town, creek walks and Botanic Gardens, being only 10 metres wide and 50 metres long, it fortunately had rear lane access. They wanted to live on site while demolishing the existing structure and during the new build, as they were owner building. As a professional couple they required an easy to live in space that was open, warm and welcoming. Two separate living areas, large kitchen, alfresco entertaining area; outdoor kitchen, and fully self contained guest accommodation were to all focus on a feature pool. Their master suite was to resemble a 5 star resort opening onto a spacious study and the garage had to accommodate two cars, workshop, laundry, spare WC and various “toys”.

Client Solution

The totally separate guest wing conceived over the garage space, which is accessed from the lane, allows privacy and emancipates the main streetscape. A freeform billabong pool creates the umbilical which links the guest area to the main home and is viewed from two spacious decks. When the guest house was completed the clients moved in there from the old home to project manage the rest of the build. A traditional roof line now blends with the streetscape; the master suite is opulent; living areas flow through and step down the slope as the ceiling height increases giving an incredible voluminous feel as the outside is welcomed in through magnificent timber bi folds. The rear lane was the key to creating a spectacular home which ticks all the boxes. Kind Regards
