Design
brief:
Clients
had moved from a cold climate to a beachside area, he
was a builder and wanted a unique stylish home to showcase
his fastidious workmanship. The site was one street
back from the beach reserve with the possibility of
ocean views from a second level. They wanted to enjoy
their new lifestyle with a very simple and uncluttered
open plan beach style home.
Although the kids had left home they still had their
beautiful old dog who needed her own covered outdoor
area. They required an oversized double garage, 3 generous
bedrooms and an office located in a quiet area of the
house.
Design Solution
Raising the ceiling height downstairs to 3m gave enough
elevation to capture uninterrupted beach and ocean views
straight down the road. The huge entertaining deck,
living and kitchen were skewed to the east on the upper
level taking full advantage of this and with the master
suite on this level it feels like a self contained luxury
apartment.
The guest room downstairs follows the building line
adding style and interest. A generous rumpus, office,
third bedroom and laundry/bathroom flows from a striking
porch/entry area. The enormous garage has access to
the rear and “Bella” has her own covered
deck.
Sandy Beach House is a testament to the workmanship
of the builder/owner, Peter Lawrence, and the design
expertise of design studio 22. This contemporary style
home fits it’s beach environment and certainly
makes a statement in the street.
