Statement :
Perched
high on a ridge with near 360 deg ocean views this unique
architect designed home, which made a statement in 1974,
was now past it’s use by date. The new owners
were in the enviable position where they couldn’t
over capitalise, so could go all out in making this
home their own.
The brief was to - Create a statement with classical
elegance; make all the rooms luxurious; give volume,
loads of glass, a home theatre and a pool. They wanted
to accommodate their guests in style and be able entertain
100 in comfort.
The decision was made to completely gut the home to
create volume by removing some of the upper flooring.
A new wing now accommodates the kitchen, family, and
a dining area highlighted by a 5.2m red wall rising
spectacularly to the master suite, bordered by a dramatic
planting of foliage.
A graceful water feature flows spills into a wet edge
pool which frames the magnificent easterly vista and
adjoins a sprawling terrace. Every existing room was
extended or renovated and a sense of presence created
by double height ceilings, porticos, columns, gazebos,
decorative trim and the use of the classic shades of
ebony and ivory.
design studio 22, in partnership with the owners, has
turned this outdated 1974 brick house into an elegant,
voluminous home where internal/external spaces flow
freely. “Villa Bellagio” is a modern yet
discerningly classical home which oozes opulence.
This magnificent home received Commendation Awards for
Residential Alterations + Additions over $200,000 and
Residential Interiors
at NSW Building Designers Association 2008 Awards.
